The U16 Goal Diggers ringette team was golden at the Ring of Fire Tournament in Airdrie this past weekend. In the round robin, the Goal Diggers went 3-0 with wins against Airdrie, Red Deer and Beaumont. In the finals, the Goal Diggers had a rematch with Airdrie, defeating them 6-1. Hanna Thompson and Brooklyn Schlenker led the team with a pair of goals each while Karly Stennick and Mackenzie Tindall rounded out the scoring. Linsey Bechtold and Kyree Stern-Rebmann split the goaltending duties over the weekend, each picking up two wins. The Goal Diggers return to league play on Sunday when the travel back to Airdrie and then Rockyford for a pair of games. U14 The U14 Impact also travelled to Airdrie for the Ring of Fire Tournament and brought home silver. The Impact started play against the Red Deer Rush with a win of 10-3, Margot Kerr and Erika Want both had three goals, Jordy Provost had two and Kensie Provost and Ryleigh Jackiw each had one. In their second game, the Impact played the Buffalo Plains Force and lost 4-2. The Impact took 50-plus shots, but ran into a solid goalie in net. Goal scorers were Jordy Provost and Kerr. In the third and final game of the round robin, the Impact played the host Airdrie Heat, and won to punch their ticket to the gold medal game. Sadie Berstad earned the player of the game for her start between the pipes. Goal scorers were Jordy Provost with two and both Kerr and Kensie Provost with one apiece. In the gold medal game, the Impact had a rematch with Buffalo Plains and came up short, 3-1. The lone goal scorer was Erika Want and the player of the game was Reese Tabor. The Impact will look to continue their success when they play again on Nov. 28, in Calgary against the South Calgary Venom and the South Calgary Heist. U19 The U19A Gators also participated in the Airdrie Ring of Fire Tournament last weekend and won silver. The Gators opened their tournament with a 4-1 win against the Red Deer Rush on Friday. Amanda Robinson, Marin Sinclair, Kylie Kallenberger and Marley Rose scored for the Medicine Hat team in the win. In their second game, the Gators beat the Calgary NW Venom Saturday morning 7-4. Andie Suhai had two goals in the win and Marin Sinclair, Kylie Kallenberger, Marley Rose, Sydney Anderson and Bree Becker each had one. The Gators went undefeated in the round robin after beating the hometown Airdrie Chaos 7-3 Saturday afternoon to advance to the gold medal match. Gator goals in the win came from Kallenberger, Rose, Suhai, Becker, Robinson, Jaelyn Siewert and Dimitria Karamanos. In the gold medal game, the Gators had a rematch against the hometown Chaos on Sunday and lost 8-6 to finish with the silver. The final game was tied 6-6 with 2:35 to play before the Chaos scored on a late power play and added an empty-net marker to secure the gold. Robinson had a hat trick in the loss for the Gators with Kallenberger adding two of her own and Karamanos scoring one. Rheagyn Heinrichs was in net for all four tournament games. The Gators return to action Nov. 28 with two games in Calgary. The U19B Mavins were also in action at the tournament. The Mavens lost their first game 7-5 against Strathmore Ice. They bounced back and won their second game 10-7 against the hometown Airdrie Rampage. The Mavens third game was a 14-6 loss against the Edmonton Rampage that sent them to the bronze medal final. The Mavens then lost 9-2 against Airdrie Rampage to finish fourth in the tournament. The Mavens head to Strathmore Sunday for a doubleheader. 22
