Hat High’s season came to a close Saturday afternoon as they lost their provincial playoff game against the Holy Trinity Academy Knights 35-18.
The first quarter was relatively quiet offensively as both the Hawks and Knights traded the ball back and forth to no score for the first 11 minutes of the quarter. The Knights scored their first passing touchdown of the game with 1:29 left in the quarter to put them ahead 7-0.
Hat High answered back early in the second quarter with a rushing touchdown from quarterback Brody Fink to tie the game up. The Hawks would pick up a point on a rouge kick to give them an 8-7 lead before Holy Trinity would take over. Holy Trinity scored two touchdowns with less than two minutes left in the quarter to carry a 21-8 lead into halftime.
Hat High answered back halfway through the third quarter after a long drive to the end zone on a rushing TD from Aayden Callan. The score brought the Hawks back within six of Holy Trinity, who remained ahead 21-15 after three quarters.
The Hawks continued their scoring in the fourth quarter as they drilled a field goal to bring the within three with 5:19 left in the game. The Knights would answer back with a long rushing TD to re-establish their two score lead, putting them up 28-18 with 3:38 left in the fourth.
Holy Trinity would add anther touchdown late in the quarter to maintain their lead and take the game 35-18, to advance in the provincial playoffs. The loss would mark the end of the Hawks season as they finish the year the Rangeland Football Conference and South Zone champions.
