The Medicine Hat Bulldogs and Panthers track and field clubs took part in the 2021 Alberta Cross Country Championships in Wetaskiwin this past weekend.

Devyn Perrett, of the Bulldogs, placed seventh out of 29 athletes in the U14 female two-kilometre race. Lexine Rodriguez Velez placed 25th in the U16 females three-kilometre run.

The Panthers sent 13 athletes to the Provincial race. The Panthers had some great success, with Coach Darryl Smith placing third in the Masters category. Mark Pierzchala, who also raced in the Masters category, finished eighth.

Andrew Vis took fourth, finishing .04 seconds behind third place in the U12 category.

Odin Jordet cracked the top 10 in the U14 male category and Weston Nixdorf placed eighth as the youngest runner in his age division.

The Panthers did have some struggles in their races. Eve Maser took a wipe-out on the course, but picked herself up and kept running to still place mid-pack in the U16 female 4K category.

Justin Jager blew a shoe during the race and ran the remainder with only one shoe, finishing just before teammate Gage Smith. Elijah Lavoie-Pierzchala was unable to finish their race due to medical issues.

Keegan Kolody finished the U18 men’s six kilometre with a time of 29:52. In the U16 men’s four-kilometre race, Cameron Jager had a time of 20:11. Eve Maser finished her three kilometre race in the U16 female’s group with a time of 14:33. Teammate Madison Pullman finished a little under a minute behind Maser in the same race.

Jordet also finished 10th in the U14 mens two kilometre and Ember Jacober had a time of 10:46 in the U14 girls two-kilometre race. Weston Nixdorf finished his one-kilometre race with a time of 6:06 in the U10 mens group.
