jtubb@medicinehatnews.com@ReporterTubb The Medicine Hat Cubs picked up two wins last weekend, 9-0 over the High River Flyers and 5-1 over the Strathmore Wheatland Kings, to remain second in the South Division of the HJHL with a record of 9-4-1. Medicine Hat hosted High River Saturday night at the Kinplex and won big. The Cubs were up 3-0 after the first period. Cooper Hilworth, Conner Douglas and Colby Freidrich scored in the period to give the Cubs their early lead. In the second frame, Dylan Trembecki, Callen Prosofsky, Conner Miller and Ethan Machan each found the score board to put Medicine Hat up 7-0 with 20 minutes left in the game. In the third period, Cubs captain Levi Schlosser and Carson Christianson added solo goals to make the final score 9-0. Layne Gilroy stopped all 14 shots he faced as the Cubs outshot the Flyers 52-14 in the win. On Sunday in Strathmore, Connor Douglas added a pair a goals in the first period and Freidrich added a goal as Medicine Hat jumped ahead early for the second straight game. Christianson scored another for the Cubs with the only goal in the second period. Strathmore scored in the third and Cubs forward Ethan Machan added one more to round out the scoring. Medicine Hat outshot the Wheatland Kings 33-27 as Dawsen Savage picked up his fourth win on the season. The Cubs hit the road Thursday in Coaldale, to take on the Copperheads. They return to Medicine Hat for a Sunday afternoon matchup against the Lomond Lakers. Puck drop is 2:45 p.m. at the Kinplex. 12
