U15 AA Tigers split weekend

The South East Athletic Club’s U15 AA Tigers had a seven-game unbeaten streak snapped on the road Sunday in a 5-2 loss to the Bow Valley Timberwolves.

The setback came just after the Tigers extended their streak to seven with a 6-3 win over the Airdrie Lightning on Saturday at the Hound Hounds Recreation Centre.

Ryker Watson led SEAC’s offence Saturday with two goals, while Leighton Verishine and Brennan Finke both had a goal and an assist, Owen Gustafson registered two helpers, and Ethan Hall and Kian Green rounded out the scoring.

Kayne Wright stopped 33 pucks for the victory.

Hall recorded both of SEAC’s goal’s Sunday, including the game’s opening goal, but the Timberwolves rallied to victory with three unanswered in the second and third.

Wright stopped 34 shots in the loss.

The split weekend puts SEAC at 7-3-2 on the South Central Alberta Hockey League season. They return to the ice Friday in Lethbridge against the Hurricanes.

U16 AA

The Medicine Hat U16 AA Hounds dropped a pair over the weekend, 6-1 to the Airdrie-Bow Valley Havoc on Saturday and 7-2 to the CBHA Blackhawks on Sunday.

Rhys Schroeder scored Medicine Hat’s lone goal Saturday while Merrick Kurpjuweit stopped 54 shots between the pipes.

Schroeder and Parker Forrest scored in Sunday’s loss, while Jerzy Walter stopped 32 shots.

The U16 AA Hounds (1-9-0) will host the Wheatland Raiders at the Family Leisure Centre on Friday night.

U18 AA

The Medicine Hat U18 AA Hounds extended their undefeated streak to 11 games over the weekend with a 6-2 win over the NWCAA Bruins Friday and a 3-3 tie to the CBHA Blackhawks Saturday at the Family Leisure Centre.

Braden Patey and Gavin Smith both had a goal and an assist in Friday’s win, while Joshua Drefs, Jackson Bowal, Jevonte Freeman and Joseph Hackett rounded out the scoring.

Kaiden Morin stopped 27 shots for the win.

Bowal led Sunday’s offence with two goals and an assist, while Brennin Wereley added an individual tally to round out the scoring.

Tyler Wakelam stopped 20 shots in the tie.

The Hounds (8-0-3) will take a break before returning to action Nov. 19 in Taber against the Golden Suns.

U15 AAA

South East Athletic Club’s U15 AAA Tigers took a 3-2 win from the Lethbridge Hurricanes on the road Sunday.

Theron Bensler, Josiah Jackson and Colson Wereley scored in succession to give the Tigers a 3-0 edge after 40 minutes, then goaltender Adler Ames held off a late Lethbridge push to secure the win with a 32-save effort.

The U15 AAA Tigers (7-3-1) will be back in action on Nov. 27 against the Oilers in Okotoks.

U16 AAA

South East Athletic Club’s U16 AAA Tigers split their weekend with a 6-3 loss to Canadian United Cycle and a 4-3 win over the Okotoks Oilers.

Deegan Bert and Noah Derouin led Saturday’s offence with a goal and an assist each, while Quade Vanderspruit rounded out the scoring and Keegan Stenger stopped 35 shots in goal.

Kaige Schafer took over the crease Sunday and stopped 29 shots for the win.

Vanderspruit, Ryder Stimson and Makhi Carriere all had a goal and an assist, while Heath Geekie rounded out the scoring with an individual marker.

The U16 AAA Tigers (3-6-0) will be back in action Saturday against the Calgary Northstars at the Family Leisure Centre.
