Minor Hockey Roundup: U18 Hounds blank Bisons

The Medicine Hat Hounds U18 AA team improved to 7-0-2 on the South Central Alberta Hockey League season with a 5-0 victory over the Foothills Bisons on the road Sunday.

Hounds goaltender Tyler Wakelam turned away all 20 shots he faced to record the shutout, while Ty Flaig led the offence with a two-goal performance. Joshua Drefs (1G,1A) Caleb Garrecht (1G, 1A), and Joseph Hackett (1G) rounded out the scoring, with Brady Mahar and Gavin Smith each chipping in a pair of assists.

The Hounds return to the ice Friday to host the NWCAA Bruins for a 7:30 p.m. battle at the Family Leisure Centre.

U16 AAA

South East Athletic Club’s U16 AAA Tigers split a pair of close games on the road this weekend, defeating the Calgary Flames 1-0 on Friday before falling 3-2 to the Calgary Bulls Sunday.

Kaige Schafer stopped 37 shots to pick up Friday’s shutout, while Makhi Carriere notched the lone goal of the contest.

Julian Laqua and Will Bell scored Sunday, while Keegen Stenger stopped 35 shots, but the Bulls secured a late victory on a power play goal from Lauchlan Kozicky.

The Tigers (2-5-0) return to Hockey Hounds Arena on Saturday to host Canadian United Cycle at 7:30 p.m.

U16 AA

The U16 AA Hounds dropped two lopsided contests on the road this weekend, 8-1 to the Wheatland Raiders on Friday and 10-1 to the Okotoks Oilers on Saturday.

Rhys Schroeder scored SEAC’s lone goal in Saturday’s loss, while Blake Dosenberger netted the only Tabby tally Friday.

Jerzy Walter stopped 47 shots in Saturday’s loss, while Merrick Kurpjuweit took Friday’s loss with a 32-save performance.

The Hounds (1-7-0) will hit the road to face the Airdrie-Bow Valley Havoc on Friday.

U15 AA

SEAC’s U15 AA Tigers rallied to extend their unbeaten streak to six games with a 1-1 tie to the Foothills Bisons on Friday and a 4-3 victory over the Okotoks Oilers on Sunday.

Ethan Hall scored with just over two minutes left in Friday’s game to secure the tie, backed by a 15-save outing from Parker McLaughlin.

Hall added another in Sunday’s win, alongside individual tallies from Kian Green, Davin Torgerson and Baker Thompson.

McLaughlin stopped 26 shots for the win.

The Tigers (6-2-2) will be back at the Hockey Hounds Arena Saturday for a 4:15 p.m. game against the Airdrie Lightning.

U15 AAA

SEAC’s U15 AAA Tigers went 2-1 over the weekend, defeating the Lethbridge Golden Hawks 8-3 Friday and the Calgary Royals 5-2 on Saturday before falling 5-2 to the Red Deer Rebels on Sunday.

Ty Hynes and Colby Gulliver both had two goals in Friday’s win, while Slade McFadzen had three assists, and Cash Olson, Kayden Yeaman, Cole Fisher and Kade Dickie rounded out the scoring. Kayne Wright stopped 19 shots for the win.

Josiah Jackson led Saturday’s scoring with two goals, backed by individual tallies from Hynes, Yeaman and Joey Clarke, and a 48-save performance from Kolter Gans.

Olson and Fisher scored Sunday’s only SEAC goals, while Gans stopped 39 saves in the loss.

The Tigers (6-4-1) will be in Lethbridge on Sunday to face the Golden Hawks at noon.

U13 AA

The U13 AA Hounds Black picked up a 7-3 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes White on Friday, while the Hounds Black split their weekend with a 10-2 loss to the Wheatland Braves on Friday, and a 4-3 bounce-back win over the Taber Golden Suns on Saturday.

Illya Khazov powered the Hounds Black to victory with four goals and an assist, while George Maser chipped in with a goal and three helpers, and Ethan Chenard and Rhyder Arnold each posted single goals. Marshall Turner stopped 17 pucks for the win.

Brogan Verishine and Lucas Fisher both scored in the Hounds Black’s lopsided loss Friday, while Caleb Matheson did all he could in net with 37 saves.

Liam Green and Kian Lang led Saturday’s offence with a goal and an assist each, while Fisher and Ethan Grad both had two helpers, and Chase Droeske and Evander Leupold added individual tallies. Brayden Tschritter stopped 37 shots to secure the narrow victory.

The Hounds Black (7-1-0) return to action Nov. 13 against the Golden Suns, while the Hounds Orange (3-5-1) are back Nov. 12 against the Chestermere Lakers.
