The U19A Gators are coming off a successful doubleheader at home this Saturday against the Cochrane Rockies to remain undefeated early in their season.

The Gators squeaked out a 6-5 win in a back and forth battle to open the set, then locked down a 6-4 win just three hours later to close out the day.

Amanda Robinson had a hat trick and Ryan Sweet, Jaelyn Siewert and Allison Mason each had a goal on route to the first win.

Mason had two goals and Kylie Kallenberger, Siewert, Delaney Mastel and Dimitria Karamanos each had one in the second Gators victory.

Rheagyn Heinrichs was in net both games for the Gators.

The Gators return to the ice Oct. 31 at the Kinplex for another doubleheader, this time against the BowView Bruins. Game 1 gets underway at 11:45 a.m. and Game 2 is set for 3 p.m.

Season underway for U19B Mavens

The U19B Mavens got their season started Saturday with a doubleheader in the Hat against the NW Calgary Tenacity.

The Mavens were shut out in a 11-0 loss in their first game, then the U19B squad found the back of the net with two goals from Serina Grona and one from Hailey Sanders, before losing 9-3 at the hands of the Tenacity.

Coach Loralee Eastland says the girls worked hard and never gave up as they tried to shake off the cobwebs from not playing in over a year.

“They showed excellent potential in what they were executing but we weren’t getting any bounces to go our way,” Eastland said.

The Mavens also unveiled what they call the Mavens Cape. Loralee says the cape is much like the Toronto Blue Jays home run jacket to celebrate when a player hits home run.

The cape and the U19B Mavens will see their next action on Saturday at the Kinplex for a doubleheader against the NW Calgary Odyssey, with games at 12:30 p.m. and 3:45 p.m.

U14B Impact split weekend on the road

The Medicine Hat U14B Impact traveled to Airdrie and Chestermere Saturday for their first league games of the season, defeating the Airdrie Sting 9-7 win before falling 8-6 to the Indus Lightning.

Kensie Provost strapped on the pads to play goalie for her very first time and collected the opening win. Jordy Provost scored a hat trick, while Ryleigh Jackiw, Erika Want and Leighton Wright all had two goals.

In the second game, the Impact couldn’t quite finish off the Cinderella comeback. Down 7-1 at the end of first, the Impact rallied to an 8-6 loss, iced by a late Indus empty-netter.

Kensie Provost played her second ever game in net in the loss. Jordy Provost had five of the Impact’s goals, with Sophia Stock adding one.

The U14B Impact will host two league games on Saturday against Strathmore Ice at the Kinplex. The first game is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. with the second one getting underway at 5:15 p.m.
