sports@medicinehatnews.com The Medicine Hat College Rattlers cross country team was in action on Saturday in Calgary at the St. Mary’s Open. The rookie-laden team (13 of the 14 athletes on the roster are first-year ACAC runners) finished fifth among the women’s team and sixth in the men’s standings. Individually, both Pyper Gill and Aden Haywood led the Rattlers for the third time this season. Gill finished 11th in the women’s 6K race, clocking a time of 26:55 over the rolling course. Cheldynn Molnar (20th), Angela Bunn (36th), Huimei Huang (38th), Ji Soo Lee (39th) and Kelsey Hamill (40th) were the other Rattlers runners who completed the race. In the men’s 8K event, Haywood rallied hard in the closing kilometre and placed 12th in a time of 29:25. Teammates Brannon Sumner (21st), Carson Schiller (22nd), Keveen Gonsalez (32nd) and Shintaro Iwaki (40th) rounded out the MHC finishers. MHC assistant coach Chris Jonker recorded a 15th place finish. Next up for the Rattlers runners is the 2021 ACAC XC Running Championships in Camrose on Oct. 30. Rattlers soccer season ends Both the Rattlers women’s and men’s soccer teams won their playoff matchups against Olds College on Friday to move onto the next round before having their hopes dashed by SAIT on Sunday. The women’s team saw their season end in Calgary in a 5-0 loss to the Trojans. They finished the regular season at 3-3 before going 1-1 come playoff time. The men’s team was able to score against SAIT but still fell 5-1 on Sunday as their season also came to an end. Arlind Musliu scored in the 90th minute for Medicine Hat to ruin SAIT’s bid for a shutout. The Rattler men finished the regular season 2-4 and also went 1-1 in the playoffs. 12
