Fourteen students from Eagle Butte, Crescent Heights and Medicine Hat High, who all finished top-10 at the Zones meet last Wednesday, will compete against the other top cross country runners in the province at Riverbend Golf Course. Hat High’s Hug Capeta Romano finished fourth in the Jr. Boys group with a time of 16:03.69. He’s joined in the Jr. Boys division by Grayden Tshritter and CJ Payeur of Eagle Butte. Who finished sixth and 10 respectively with times of 16:16.15 and 16:20.05 qualifying them for provincials. Hannah Kozakewich, from Hat High, finished in second place of the intermediate girls group with a time of 23:05.28. She was followed up by Eagle Butte’s Kassidy Hart, who finished fourth with a time of 24:19.63. Eagle Butte’ Sam Schick ran away with the intermediate boys group and took first place with a time of 19:15.40. A full 24 seconds ahead of the second place runner from Lethbridge Collegiate. His teammate, Eli Lavoie-Pierzchala finished in fourth place with a time of 20:39.41. There will be seven senior runners from the three schools heading to Red Deer this weekend. Crescent Heights Madison Scrimger finished in second place of the senior girls group, with a time of 21:31.92. Georgia Herter from Hat High finished sixth with a time of 24:12.53 and Eagle Butte’s Desiree Stuber finished in eighth place with a time of 24:46.56. The zones meet was Stuber’s first ever cross country race with her only experience being running track last year and running around her house. In the senior boys run, Justin Jager from Eagle Butte finished in fourth place, with a time of 25:37.91. Hat High’s Gage Smith finished seventh with a time of 26:34.36 and Jager’s teammate, Colton Robinson, rounded out the top 10 with a 27:13.77 finish. Keegan Kolody from Hat High qualified for the provincials Senior Boys Para division with a time of 28:14.37. The provincials will get underway Saturday at 10 a.m. with the two kilometre Para race. The Jr. girls four kilometre race will start at 10:45 with the Jr. boys at 11:30. Intermediate girls five kilometre race starts at 12:15 p.m., with the intermediate boys starting at 1:15. The senior girls five kilometre starts at 2:10 and the final race of the meet, the Sr. boys six kilometre race, gets underway at 3:10 10
