Tigers top Broncos in overtime to open home-and-home exhibition series

It was a busy for special teams in Swift Current.

The Medicine Hat Tigers and the Broncos split 10 penalties and three power play goals and the Tigers won 3-2 in overtime.

Tabby defenceman Bogdans Hodass notched his second goal of the pre-season halfway through the first. Steven Arp, who signed with the Tigers on Friday, assisted on the goal.

With a 1:23 left in the first, Teague Patton capitalized on a Caleb Wyrostok interference and scored on the power play. Ashton Ferster and Caleb Willms assisted .

The Broncos drew close early in the third off Cole Nagy’s goal 31 seconds into the period and on the power play. Nagy struck again on the advantage halfway through the third to even it up.

It was another newcomer for the Tigers, Owen MacNeil, that ended the game in overtime. The former Spokane Chief scored 41 seconds into the extra period to seal the victory.

Tigers netminder Beckett Langkow stopped 24 of the 26 shots he faced in the game.

His counter part, Reid Dyck, stopped 19 of the 22 Tigers’ shots he faced.

Medicine Hat’s next game is tonight at Co-op Place as they finish up their home-and-home series against the Broncos. Puck drops at 7 p.m.
