By James Tubb on September 25, 2021.

Medicine Hat is building up it’s goaltending depth.

The Tigers announced Saturday they had signed goalie Zach Zahara to a standard WHL agreement. The Rocky View product was selected by the Tigers in the 8th round, 171st overall in the 2020 WHL Selection Draft. He joins Medicine Hat’s three headed monster in net of, Garin Bjorklund, Beckett Langkow and James Venne.

The 16—year—old appeared in two games for the AC Avalanche of the AEHL U16 during the 2020-2021 season. He won both games with a 3.50 GAA and a 0.904 SV%. In 2019-20, he played in 17 games during the regular season, finishing with an 6-8-3 record to go along with a 3.36 GAA and a 0.908 SV%.

“Zach is an intelligent, athletic goalie with good size,” said Tigers director of player personnel Bobby Fox. “He makes smooth powerful movements, shows good hands and has a high compete level. We’d like to welcome Zach and his family to the Tigers organization.”

The Tigers say Zahara is expected to see his first action in a Tigers uniform tonight in their second game against the Swift Current Broncos. Medicine Hat won in overtime 3-2 Friday night in Swift Current, taking game one of their home—and—home series.

Puck drops tonight at 7 p.m. at Co-op Place.
