Tigers fall in first pre-season game

By Medicine Hat News on September 18, 2021.

The Medicine Hat Tigers brought a dramatic finish to their first pre-season game but ultimately fell 3-2 against the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

The Tigers jumped out to an early lead off of a Brayden Boehm goal, 5:35 into the first period. Oren Shtrom and Rhett Parsons assisted on the mark.

Lethbridge tied up the game then took the lead in the second period on goals from Logan Barlage and Noah Boyko. Alex Thacker tacked on an unassisted marker halfway through the third period that would prove to be the game winner after a dramatic late goal from Carlin Dezainde in the last 90 seconds of the game.

But, it was too little too late for the Tigers as Lethbridge’s goalie Bryan Thomson shut the door after that. Thomson stopped 17 of the 19 Tigers’ shots he faced.

Tigers netminder Garin Bjorklund started the game and saved all but one of the 20 shots he faced before exiting the crease halfway through the second period. Bjorklund, heads to Washington Capitals camp on Tuesday, where he will join Tigers teammate Dru Krebs in their first NHL camp experience.

Beckett Langkow took over the Tabby cage and stopped six of the eight shots he faced over two periods.

It was a chippy affair as the Hurricanes had seven penalties to Medicine Hat’s six.

Medicine Hat has a chance for redemption as they play host to the Hurricanes tonight at the Co-op Place. Puck drops at 7 p.m.
