One of Medicine Hat’s top football stars has committed to play in the NCAA. Elic Ayomanor announced via Twitter Friday that he would be committing to the University of Stanford in California.
“Stanford for me, was just the perfect balance between academics and football. Even more so, it had both at a very high level,” he said.
The 6-foot-3 18-year-old currently goes to Deerfield Academy, a top prep school in Massachusetts. Ayomanor says Stanford was the 26th school to extend him an offer and that making the final decision came down to weighing academics as high as football.
“There was a couple of them, I’d say about four, that I was thinking about that all have good, very elite academics and elite football. Then for me, Stanford was the No. 1 from the beginning,” Ayomanor said.
Ayomanor previously played at Medicine Hat High School and competed with the Bulldogs Track and Field Club.
He has not yet decided on a major but has his sights set on some day potentially starting his own dental practice. This future goal after football stems from having braces himself and wanting to help others with self confidence.
“I think it would be a great job just to be able to help people bring out their confidence in themselves,” Ayomanor said.
He will play one more season at Deerfield Academy before reporting to Stanford’s summer camp around the third week of June.
