Calvin Heller clinched his second consecutive Medicine Hat Open men’s championship at the Medicine Hat Tennis Club this weekend. The top-seeded Heller defeated second seed Craig Weich, 7-5, 6-2, in the final to clinch the back-to-back title. The final was a rematch from last year’s championship, in which Heller picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win over Weich. Dannan McElroy-O’Driscoll won the Women’s Open championship with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Lauren Danroth. Mak Howes won the Men’s Intermediate division with a 7-6, 6-3 win over Todd Christianson in the final. Peter O’Driscoll won the Men’s Open consolation bracket, defeating Lachlan MacMillan 7-6, 6-4 in the final, while Dawn Olson bested Rocheal Howes, 6-2, 6-2, to win the Women’s Open consolation bracket and Ron Fisher beat Noel Thomas, 7-5, 6-4, for the Men’s Intermediate consolation victory. The Medicine Hat Open continues Wednesday with the start of the doubles tournament, which runs through Saturday at the Medicine Hat Tennis Club. 7
