The Medicine Hat U12B Thunder left the diamond with a bronze medal at the Softball Alberta championship in St. Albert this weekend.

After going 4-0 in the round robin for second place in the standings, the Thunder dropped a semifinal to Sylvan Lake, 5-2, but bounced back for a 12-2 win over Lloydminster in four innings for bronze.

“The girls were upset over the tough loss but they knew they had to come back and fight for bronze,” coach Dianna Jordison said in a message to the News.

“These girls fought hard the whole season and their goal was to end with a provincial medal. They have all grown so much over the past several months.”

Jordison added the Thunder took home a silver medal in the Girls Prairie League Softball season as well, but it was the way they worked together as a team that truly made the summer a success.

“If you want to know the definition of a team, these girls are it,” she said. “Displayed amazing sportsmanship, positive and determined, supportive of each other, everyone contributed, hard working and never gave up. The culture they created was amazing and talked about from other teams and coaches. That to me is more valuable than a medal. I am so incredibly proud of each and every one of them.”

Over in Edmonton, the U14D Thunder fell just short of medal contention by way of a tiebreaker.
