Seven Persons sprinter Sage Watson fell short of reaching the 400-metre hurdles final at the Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo following a fifth-place finish in Heat 1 of the semifinals on Monday.
Watson finished in a time of 55.51, putting her 0.55 seconds behind Germany’s Carolina Krafzig for fourth, and 2.21 seconds behind Daliah Muhammad, who handily won the heat in 53.30 seconds.
Watson managed to shave 0.03 seconds off her time from the first round — in which she finished fourth in Heat 1 with a time of 55.54 to advance — but it wasn’t enough to put her in the final eight.
Watson took to Instagram following the race.
“I went for it…” she posted. “4×4 relay up next!!”
That 4×400-metre relay is slated to begin Thursday at 7:25 p.m. Tokyo time (or 4:25 a.m. in Medicine Hat). The women’s 4×400-metre final is scheduled for Saturday at 9:30 p.m. Tokyo time (or 6:30 a.m. in Medicine Hat).
