Medicine Hat’s American Legion Baseball program will be welcoming teams from across Alberta over the long weekend for the United Commercial Travelers 18U Tournament.

While border closures have prevented the Hat Moose Monarchs and K of C Knights from playing to their usual level, the program has been practising and playing exhibition games ever since restrictions have allowed through two equally-formed teams.

Coaching Team Medicine Hat Red is Cole Schreiber, while Kyle Swannack has been managing Team Medicine Hat Blue.

Team Red will open its tournament on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Jeffries Park against the Calgary Mustangs. Team Blue will follow at 7:30 p.m. against the Calgary Bucks Black.

Red will be back on the field at Jeffries Sunday with games at 9:30 a.m. against Vauxhall and 3 p.m. against the Calgary Bucks White,

Blue will take on the Lethbridge Miners Sunday at 12:15 p.m., then the Calgary Strive at 5:45 p.m.

The tournament officially kicks off Saturday at 11:30 a.m. with a game between Vauxhall and the Bucks White at Jeffries Park.

Playoff action gets underway Monday, with semifinals slated for 9 a.m. at Jeffries and McCoy, followed by the championship game at 2:30 p.m.
