Bittersweet finish for Missoula Jr. Bruins

By Medicine Hat News on April 7, 2021.

A pair of local players competing with the Missoula Junior Bruins under former Medicine Hat Tiger Emerson Etem had their playoff hopes dashed on Saturday in Wyoming.

After rallying to clinch the North American 3 Hockey League post-season with a 21-17-2-0 record, Medicine Hat’s Kieran Christianson and Brooks product Mason Mowat fell short of reaching the second round in back-to-back losses to the 39-1-0-0 Sheridan Hawks.

The series loss comes just a few weeks after players received news that the Bruins had been sold after five seasons in Missoula, and will be relocating to Rapid City, S.D. next year.

While they were held off the scoresheet in their 4-2 and 10-1 playoff losses, Christianson and Mowat were driving factors in Missoula’s regular season push.

Mowat, 18, potted 10 goals and added 12 helpers over 31 games, while the 17-year-old Christianson closed out his 26-game campaign with seven assists and eight goals – two of which came in a late regular season contest against the Hawks.
