Black tops Orange twice in weekend U13 showdown

Minor hockey teams were able to squeak some games in this weekend before the city was hit with a foot of snow.

Medicine Hat’s U13 Black and Orange teams faced off Friday and Sunday night, with Black coming away with a pair of wins.

Black was able to edge Orange 6-5 Friday night at Hockey Hounds Rec Centre.

Orange had a 3-2 lead going into the third, but Black but up four in the final frame to win the game.

Black goalie Kayden Van Ham made 30 saves on 35 shots, while Orange goalie Gabriel Currie made 41 on 47.

Ty Hynes led the way for Black with two goals and one assist.

Brennan Finke led Orange with the same stat line.

In game two, Black put up 6 to Orange’s 3. The lead came early, with Black putting up four goals in the first period. Orange scored three goals in the second but it wasn’t enough.

Hynes once again had two goals and an assist. Kingston Chisholm had two assists for Orange.

The teams will face off again today at Co-op Place.

U15 AA

The U15 AA Southern Express played Saturday against the Rocky Mountain Raiders, and came up short in a 5-4 loss.

The teams were tied after two periods, but the Express were outscored by one goal in the third.

Makayla Watson scored two goals and added an assist Saturday to lead the Southern Express.

Goalies Taya Christie and Maddy Ferguson split time, with Ferguson facing more shots and letting in three goals. Christie was in net for two goals against.
