Medicine Hat News The Medicine Hat U19A Mafia improved to 3-1 on the Sunny South League ringette season with back-to-back wins over the Lethbridge Rattlers on home ice Saturday. After splitting their opening weekend against the Rattlers, the Mafia took to the ice in Medicine Hat and ran away with 6-3 and 14-6 victories. “In Game 1 our goaltender Rheagyn Heinrichs stopped 14 of 17 shots, fronted by some solid defensive play by Hanna Heidel, Bree Becker, Delaney Mastel, and Dimi Karamanos,” Mafia head coach Marty Robinson said in an email sent to the News. Jaelyn Siewert and Amanda Robinson led the offence with four goals apiece in the victories. The pair of wins gave Medicine Hat a 3-1 victory in the season-opening four-game set against Lethbridge. Outlaws stay perfect The Medicine Hat U14B Outlaws completed a four-game sweep of the Rattlers with commanding 7-3 and 11-0 victories in Lethbridge this weekend. Grace Ammann led the Outlaws with a pair of goals in Game 1, bolstered by individual tallies from Ryleigh Jackiw, Jordy Provost, Jaida Waldegger, Mackenzie Tindall and Kasey Martin. The Outlaws kept up the offensive onslaught in Game 2, with Martin striking for four goals and Tindall adding a pair. Ammann, Provost, Jackiw, Alexis Unreiner and Maia Peterson rounded out the scoring with individual goals. But the win wasn’t all offence. The Outlaws managed to kill off all three of Lethbridge’s 5-on-3 advantages in Game 2. Kyree Stern and Emerson Clauen split duties in the crease in both games -including a combined shutout in Game 2. Elite go even Medicine Hat’s U16B Elite split their second weekend on the ice to even their four-game series against Lethbridge at 2-2. After cruising to a 12-1 victory to open the doubleheader, the Elite fell just short of a series win in a 4-3 loss to close things out. Kylee Waldegger scored a hat trick in Game 1, while Kayla Robinson, Grace Carrier and Hannah Thompson each netted a pair, and Brooklyn Schlenker, Leah Jetter and Pacie Harper rounded out the scoring. Jetter, Sophie Kerr and Charlie Christie all scored to keep things interesting in Game 2, but they were unable to skate away with the victory. Jena Harty and Abi Guest shared duties between the pipes for Medicine Hat in the doubleheader. Mustangs open on a split The Medicine Hat U12B Mustangs took the ice to host Lethbridge on Sunday at the Kinplex and left with a 1-1 record. After opening with a 5-2 victory – propped up by Leighton Wright’s hat trick and individual tallies from Margot Kerr and Kenzie Provost – the Mustangs were tested in an 8-2 loss to close out the doubleheader. Wright struck again and Tia Van Maarion added one of her own to round out the scoring. Goaltender Sadie Berstad backed the Mustangs to the split. 25
