After having the season cut short at the height of the Heritage Junior Hockey League post-season, a playoff atmosphere will be back in full force when junior B hockey returns in Alberta at the end of the month. The Medicine Hat Cubs released the first 16 confirmed games on its regular season schedule Wednesday evening, which begins with a four-game battle against the rival Coaldale Copperheads – who eliminated Medicine Hat in Game 7 of the second round for the second consecutive year last season. The action starts on Halloween night at 8:30 p.m. in Coaldale, then the Cubs and Copperheads make the trip to the Kinplex for Medicine Hat’s home opener on Nov. 1 at 2:30 p.m. before closing out the four-game set with another home-and-home the following weekend. The Cubs then enter a four-game battle with the Strathmore Wheatland Kings, Nov. 22-Dec. 4, before facing the reigning South Division champion Okotoks Bisons, Dec. 19-Jan. 8 and the Cochrane Generals, Jan. 23-30. A 14-day non-competition break is scheduled between each series in order to comply with new public health guidelines, while cohorts of 50 players will be created between the two competing teams in each series for the duration of the four games. 6
