Rattlers name female top rookie

On a Medicine Hat College women’s soccer team looking to take the next big step, one newcomer blazed a trail.

Maisa Rebello was named the Rattlers’ female rookie of the year Monday, edging volleyball’s Sarah Singular and basketball’s Hailey Neiszner.

Rebello, a midfielder from Brazil, finished second on the team with four goals in 10 games.

The women’s team went 5-4-3, barely missing the playoffs.

Tonight the male rookie of the year will be announced.
