Hopwo named Tigers top d-man

By Medicine Hat News on April 18, 2020.

Corson Hopwo made it two awards in as many days Friday when he was honoured as the Medicine Hat Tigers’ top defensive forward.

The 18-year-old from Duncan, B.C. was also a co-winner of the team’s most improved award Thursday with Daniel Baker.

Trailing only Baker, a defenceman, in the team’s plus-minus statistics, Hopwo had a plus-28 and was also sixth in team scoring with 41 points in 62 games.

Baker’s plus-38 should put him in the running for the team’s best defenceman category, which will be unveiled Saturday. The final award, team MVP, will be revealed Sunday.

The Tigers chose to announce awards daily for the past two weeks, having had to cancel the end of their season, playoffs and awards banquet due to restrictions surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.
