The Medicine Hat College Rattlers began their major award announcements Wednesday night by honouring a handful of people who don’t often get proper recognition. Golf team member David Coldham was named the recipient of the Rattlers Appreciation Award, noted for helping the athletic teams out in several different ways. Former men’s volleyball team members Griffin Moline and Kolton Promhouse were named fans of the year, supporting as alumni now that their playing days are over. Finally, a pair of game-day staff were saluted. Amanda Solar was one, while announcer Kim Johnston – who incidentally did the voiceover for the announcement itself – was the other. The Rattlers began their online awards last week, starting with team honours. They’ll continue in lieu of the cancelled awards banquet with one announcement per day until next week’s male and female athletes of the year wrap up the 17 days of releases. Futsal teams announced their awards Monday and Tuesday respectively. The men’s team named fifth-year veteran Mason Antler its Rattler Award recipient, with Victor Cambeiro (player’s choice) and Devin Simon (most improved) the other winners. As for the women, Shelby Bach got the Rattler Award, while Kaylei Hole (player’s choice) and Aleena Matthews (most improved) also got nods. 7
