A pair of Medicine Hat Tigers rookies had their efforts off the ice rewarded via social media Thursday. Forward Cole Sillinger and defenceman Dru Krebs were both called on to share the honour of the team’s Scholastic Player of the Year Award. Both Krebs and Sillinger cracked full-time roles as 16-year-olds this season and made significant impacts on the ice while managing the challenges of a Western Hockey League schedule and excelling in the classroom as well. Sillinger racked up 22 goals and 31 assists to finish fourth in rookie scoring with 53 points despite missing 10 games due to injury and five more to compete at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge – an event that kept Sillinger out of school for a week. Krebs closed out his rookie campaign with three goals, 10 assists and a plus-5 rating over 55 games. Clayton awarded for community service Tabby blueliner Cole Clayton took home the team’s annual award for community service after participating in all of the team’s community events, often being the first to volunteer and even taking on additional initiatives in the Medicine Hat community, according to a team release. Clayton finished his 63-game campaign with two goals, 28 assists and a plus-28 rating. The 6-foot-2, 201-pound Strathmore product becomes an overager next season. 9
