Hawks wrestlers total a dozen medals, plenty of pins at meet in Cochrane

By Medicine Hat News on March 11, 2020.

With its high school-aged wrestlers in between provincial meets, the Medicine Hat Hawks’ younger athletes got a chance to shine this past weekend in Cochrane.

A total of 17 Hawks went to the Saturday competition, with a dozen of them taking either first or second place in their respective divisions.

Coach Darren Klein reported that an impressive start to the day saw the first six Hawks not only win, but by pin and within 30 seconds each.

“It was truly amazing,” Klein wrote. “I credit the success to competing in Saskatchewan earlier in the season!”

First-place results were achieved by Autumn Robinson, Kade Linford, Reece Tschritter, Nolan Puritch, Janessa Jackson, Drayton Clendenan and Michael Donner. Second-place results went to William Kozakewich, Dasia Sinclair, Truman Hallawell, Nolan Jensen and Nero Jensen.

While high schoolers will head out to provincials this weekend, the younger groups will hold a meet March 25 at Dr. Roy Wilson Learning Centre.
