Nearly 300 ringette players will do battle in Medicine Hat this weekend with two provincial titles on the line.
Both under-16 and under-19 A Alberta championships begin Friday morning at both the Kinplex and Family Leisure Centre, with finals set for 1 p.m. Sunday at the two Kinplex rinks.
The host Riptide (under-16) and Mighty Ducks (under-19) know the road to gold won’t be easy, but hope they can rise to the occasion.
Riptide went 9-6-1 to wind up third in the Ringette Calgary division they play in, while the Mighty Ducks’ 5-7-4 record was fourth out of the seven under-19 league teams they played against.
Eight under-16 and nine under-19 teams are in town for the tournament, with Riptide facing Bowview Havoc at 8:45 a.m. Friday to kick off their weekend before a 1 p.m. game against Northwest Forte, both at the Kinplex.
The Mighty Ducks start even earlier, a 7 a.m. wake-up call against Sherwood Park Friday at the Kinplex followed by a 3:30 p.m. game at FLC against Bowview Elite.
