For the fourth year in a row, Mykel Kequahtooway is off to youth darts nationals.

The 17-year-old from Medicine Hat won the Alberta title Sunday in Edmonton, out-throwing the competition over two days.

With each day’s finish counting towards the overall senior youth title, Kequahtooway was second Saturday to Calgary’s Ben Vardy, but went a perfect 4-0 Sunday including a final win over Redcliff’s Tyler Stuber to claim both the day and the overall crown.

It’s Kequahtooway’s second provincial win, his first coming in 2018. A runner-up in 2017 and 2019, he made the Alberta roster each time and even had a top-16 finish at worlds two years ago.

Vardy is this year’s runner-up with Stuber, 19, named the alternate for the team.

Two other Hat players made alternate spots on the girls side of the competition. Seventeen-year-old Jaliah Kochie, a two-time champ and cousin of Kequahtooway, is the alternate in the senior girls division. Sofia Mcfarlane, 13, earned the alternate spot for junior girls.

Nationals are in Nova Scotia in May.
