Waves’ Walker gets qualifying time

For some, it was the last chance to achieve a qualifying time for provincials. So for Medicine Hat Waves swimmer Taigan Walker, getting a win at the KSC Long Course Invitational in Calgary wasn’t as important as what the clock said. Sure enough, the 14-year-old got the time she was looking for. Walker was fifth in the 200 metre breaststroke, sixth in the 50 and seventh in the 100, but her times were good enough that she’s booked a spot at the provincial meet next month, also in Calgary. She’ll be joined by five other Waves teammates. Rowynn Biffart, Grace Jacobs, Sarah Kradovill, Johnathan Marshall and Karsten Senft had already qualified. As far as the medallists went this past weekend, Senft had three of the Waves’ 12 podium finishes. He won the 14-year-old boys’ 50 and 200 metre backstrokes, then cane in second in the 400 freestyle. Younger brother Kage Senft, 11, added four medals (first in 200 free, second in 400 free, third in 50 free and 50 back). Fellow 11-year-old Kaden Goffinet was third in the 100 free. Biffart won the 11-year-old girls’ 50 back, then added silvers in the 100 back and 50 butterfly. William Smith, 12, was second in the 100 breaststroke.
