Despite doubling the Spokane Chiefs in the shot column, the Medicine Hat Tigers fell Saturday evening to the high-flying American squad.

The Tigers hosted the Chiefs as the second part of back-to-back games at the Canalta Centre. Friday the home team won 4-2 over the Tri City Americans.

The Tabbies fell behind in the first period after a goal from forward Leif Mattson. The Tigers had their chances during the opening frame, but Chiefs goaltender Lukas Parik answered.

Mattson scored the game winner at 11:50 of the second period. Eli Zummack picked up his second helper of the night on the goal.

The Tigers fired 16 shots on goal during the second frame, but were unable to get one by Parik.

Brett Kemp, who was named third star of the game, scored at 17:52 of the third to make things interesting, but the Tabbies couldn’t get another. Elijah Brown and Ryan Chyzowski picked up assists on the lone Tigers goal.

Neither team was able to convert on the man advantage, with the Tigers going 0 for 4 and the Chiefs failing on three attempts.

Tigers goalie Mads Søgaard made 14 saves on 16 shots in the loss.

The Tigers record is now 35-19-2-1 and the team will head to Regina for a Friday evening contest at the Brandt Centre.

The Tigers clinched a playoff spot with their win Friday.

The team returns to the Hat on Saturday to host the Pats.
