The Medicine Hat Cubs will begin their second-round series Saturday in Cochrane with at least one of their top players back in the lineup. The Cubs announced on Twitter Tuesday that goalie Dawsen Savage has been cleared to play, a boost after he was injured in late January. Medicine Hat could still stick with Logan Leroux, who’s gone 6-3 in Savage’s absence including a 3-1 series win over Strathmore. But chances are they’ll return to Savage, who went 14-8 in the regular season and saw more than twice as much ice time as his counterpart between the pipes. The Heritage Junior B Hockey League’s Southern Division semifinal is a best-of-seven affair, and will see home ice alternate. Game 2 will be Sunday, 6 p.m. at the Kinplex, with Game 3 back in Cochrane Feb. 27 and Game 4 in the Hat Feb. 28 (7:30 p.m.). Game 5 if necessary is two days later, March 1 in Cochrane. The Kinplex would host Game 6 March 2 (7:30 p.m.) and Game 7 would be March 4 in Cochrane. The Generals won the season series 3-1 thanks to two wins on the final weekend of the regular season. Savage wasn’t available for those. The other head-to-head games both required overtime to solve, with the home team prevailing both times. In other Heritage League series, High River is in Coaldale tonight for Game 5 of their first-round series. The winner heads to Okotoks later this week. In the Northern Division, Sylvan Lake needed four games to dispatch Rocky while Mountainview swept Stettler. Sylvan Lake next faces Red Deer while Mountainview draws division champion Airdrie. 8
