Tigers set to host Broncos at Canalta

By Medicine Hat News on January 28, 2020.

The Medicine Hat Tigers will look to keep pace with the top teams in the WHL as the Swift Current Broncos visit Canalta Centre tonight.

The 30-14-1-1 Tigers trail 29-11-2-5 Lethbridge by three points for second place in the Central Division, but have a game in hand.

The 10-31-1-3 Broncos will look to forge a repeat of the last time the two teams met.

That Dec. 27 contest saw the Broncos win 4-3 in a shootout, their first win over Medicine Hat in three tries this season.

With five more games between the clubs left to play in the regular season, both will be looking for an edge. Last time out it was Broncos goalie Isaac Poulter’s 40 saves that paved the way. Earlier in the season 2-0 and 10-1 Tigers wins were one-sided.

Tabbies captain James Hamblin is tied atop the league scoring list, his 72 points equal to Kamloops’ Zane Franklin. Hamblin had a 16-game points streak end in Saturday’s 4-3 win over Prince Albert – he had 29 points in the span which began Dec. 10.

Corson Hopwo has points in his last four games for Medicine Hat, and goals in his last two.

The Broncos are coming off a 6-3 win over Moose Jaw, which ended an eight-game losing streak.

The teams match up again Friday in Swift Current, March 3 in the Hat, March 13 in Swift and March 14 back at Canalta Centre.
