The Medicine Hat Cubs battled back into the win column with a 10-3 blowout of the Lomond Lakers on the road Sunday. The win snaps a small two-game slide and pushes Medicine Hat to 21-9-2 on the Heritage Junior Hockey League season – good enough for second in the Southern Division, however the Cochrane Generals (21-8-2) and Coaldale Copperheads (21-11-1) both played Sunday evening and results were not available by press time. Medicine Hat surged to a 4-0 lead after 20 minutes on goals from Desmond Crawford, Chandler Aleman, Mason Fischer and Spencer Chapman. While Lomond mounted a stiff comeback effort in the second – narrowing the gap to 4-3 – the Cubs dug in and responded with tallies from Grant Forbes and Noah Irvine to take a three-goal lead into the third. The Cubs kept pouring on in the final frame. Cooper Hilworth and Ethan Machan struck in succession to stretch the gap to five, then Aleman added his second of the game before Carson Dingwall pushed Medicine Hat into double-digits late in the third. Lomond fell to 3-27-1 with the loss. The Cubs open a home-and-home set with the Wheatland Kings on Saturday evening in Strathmore. The teams return to the Kinplex for a rematch Sunday at 2:15 p.m. 8
