The Medicine Hat Soccer Association reported results from last weekend’s Winter Classic late Thursday night, noting that two of its teams wound up champions while two others were runner-ups.

Both the under-17 and under-15 Rattlers Athletic Soccer Club girls teams emerged victors. The under-17’s beat Swift Current 6-2 in Sunday’s final at the Family Leisure Centre, while the under-15’s edged a combined team from Coaldale and Medicine Hat 2-0.

The under-17’s had a slow start to the weekend, losing 3-1 to Cochrane and trailing Swift Current 4-1 in the first half. But they rallied to a 5-4 win, then beat Cochrane 3-1 in a Sunday semifinal.

The under-15 girls had a similar story, losing 2-0 to Coaldale Friday and tying Swift Current 2-2 Saturday before finding another gear. They beat Cochrane 8-5 to set up the rematch with the Coaldale team, which includes some under-13 Rattlers players.

The under-17 Tier 3 boys went 2-2 in a five-team round robin event which included the local under-15 Tier 2 side. Swift Current went unbeaten including a narrow 3-2 win over Medicine Hat Friday. Airdrie also went 2-2 to tie for second spot.

In under-13 Tier 3, the Rattlers fell 6-2 to a team from Calgary in the final after beating Brooks 6-1 and Lethbridge 9-5 in the round robin.
