Rattlers primed for big weekend at home

By Medicine Hat News on January 17, 2020.

The Medicine Hat Rattlers women’s basketball team will look to shoot up standings when they host the Briercrest Clippers for a 6 p.m. battle tonight at the Snake Pit.

The Rattlers (5-5) sit fifth in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference’s South standings entering this weekend’s games, but a single victory could vault them into a tie for second – as the Clippers, St. Mary’s Lightning and Lethbridge Kodiaks are deadlocked for the spot at 12 points apiece.

The Rattlers have already earned a berth into the post-season as hosts the ACAC women’s basketball championship.

Katelyn Rozdeba helped the Rattlers kick off 2020 in the win column by putting up 15 points and 14 rebounds in a 53-51 victory over Lethbridge last week, while the Clipper have yet to play a regular season game since returning from the holiday break.

The Rattlers men’s basketball team enters this evening’s 8 p.m. nightcap looking to shake off a two-game slide spanning back to November.

Medicine Hat (2-8) is still in the playoff hunt with six points to make up on the Red Deer Kings and Ambrose Lions, who sit tied for the fourth and final playoff spot with 10 points apiece. Medicine Hat has 11 games left in the regular season.

The Clippers (4-5) are riding a two-game winning streak and sit just two points outside of the playoff picture.

Over in Calgary, the Rattlers women’s volleyball team will attempt to extend their winning streak to five games against the struggling SAIT Trojans.

Medicine Hat has already locked up a playoff berth as hosts of the ACAC women’s volleyball championship as well, but climbing the standings could earn them a better matchup. The Rattlers sit fourth in the ACAC South at 8-6, four points behind the Ambrose Lions for third.

The Trojans enter tonight’s match nursing an 11-game losing streak.

The Rattlers men’s volleyball team will close out the evening in Calgary against the top-seeded Trojans.

Medicine Hat’s men’s squad (4-10) is coming off a four-set win over the Olds Broncos and sits eight points behind the Briercrest Clippers for the fourth and final playoff berth in the ACAC South.

The Trojans (12-4) hold a two-point lead over Lethbridge for first in the South and enter tonight’s contest on a three-game winning streak.
