Thirteen-year-old Medicine Hat Panthers athlete Tristan Scrimger pulls away from the pack in a 1,200-metre heat during the Panthers Indoor Classic track and field meet at the Family Leisure Centre on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019. The meet will have more age catergories and a new event this year.

The Medicine Hat Panthers’ Indoor Classic is getting a bit bigger in its fourth year.

Already a combination between fun and competitive, the Feb. 8 meet at the Family Leisure Centre is pushing its limits with more age categories and a new event.

While dozens of Panthers members will no doubt lead the way again, age is no limit with 6-under and 65-over divisions added to the mix. Club affiliations don’t matter either.

As for the new event, a predictive 800 metre race will work much like cars at the local drag strip: you predict your time, run (or walk) the distance, and see how close you came.

The usual running distances from 60 to 3,000 metres plus a relay and hurdles will also take place. It’s $15 per person to register online before Feb. 4 – go to zone4.ca and search for Panthers Indoor Classic.
