Hat’s Aberle falls to Heilong River team in cash spiel final

Medicine Hat’s Kevin Aberle came just short of clinching the Medicine Hat Curling Club’s open cash bonspiel Sunday, falling 5-4 to the Heilong River 1 squad in the final.

The Chinese Heilong River team picked up one in the seventh to tie things up before stealing away the victory in the eighth end.

The Heilong River 2 squad ended up picking up the B event victory with a 4-2 win over Chenyi Wang’s squad.

The C event featured an all-Medicine Hat final between Kyle Wagner and Trevor Funk’s teams, and Wagner came away with the 6-3 victory. The local squads were deadlocked at 3-3 following five ends before Wagner ran away with the win.

In the D event final, Kyler Kleibrink cruised to a 9-1 victory over the Heilong River 3 team in six ends.

The Medicine Hat Curling Club kicks off its annual Yuletide Bonspiel on Dec. 27.
