Curling spiel in town this weekend

By Medicine Hat News on December 14, 2019.

Teams from across Medicine Hat – and well beyond – are in action at the Medicine Hat Curling Club for a small cash bonspiel this weekend.

Sixteen teams will be battling it out at the spiel. While several hail from right here in the Gas City, a handful of squads from China will also be out on the sheets. Curling Club manager Vickie Sjolie said in an email to the News that many of the Chinese squads have been training in Calgary and searching for new events to sign up while they develop in Canada.

Hatters Trevor Funk, John Stroh, Kevin Aberle, Kyle Wagner, Jason Kunz and Josh Helman will also be vying for the prize, which will be handed out following Sunday’s final.

The open bonspiel officially got underway late Friday night and will continue with Saturday draws at noon and 4 p.m. Playoffs will be held Sunday at 9 a.m. and noon, followed by the final at 3 p.m.
