Megan Morrison of the Monsignor McCoy Colts has the ball knocked away by Eagle Butte forward Rayleen Lundquist during a varsity girls basketball game in Dunmore Wednesday.

Monsignor McCoy’s girls faced a concerted effort from the host Eagle Butte Talons and held on for a 63-53 win Wednesday night.

At Dunmore, the varsity Southeast Basketball Conference game saw the Talons press the Colts on both ends of the floor, but never take the lead against the perennial powerhouse.

Jaden Brown’s 18 points led the Colts, while Brooklyn Schafer added 17.

Janay Whitfield had 24 for the Talons, who saw a sizeable crowd in the bleachers for their first home game of the regular season. Claire O’Connell and Kassidy Simmons each had seven.

In the earlier junior girls matchup, it was a similar story with McCoy earning a narrow 66-57 win. Hannah Cameron had 19 for the Colts while Shyla Sandau had all of her 13 points in the first half for the Talons.
