Ringette: Riptide sweep Ice in league play

By Medicine Hat News on November 27, 2019.

What better way to lead in to your home tournament than a pair of wins?

The under-16 Riptide ringette team did just that this past weekend, beating the Strathmore Ice twice on home ice Sunday.

Starting at the Kinplex, the Riptide dominated in a 12-5 victory. Marin Sinclair’s hat trick plus a two-goal game from Alycia Simpson led the offence, while Preslee Starner, Dimitria Karamanos, Joren Gramlich, Andie Suhai, Kayla Robinson, Kylie Kallenberger and Kylee Waldegger also scored.

The second game of the day was at the Moose Recreation Centre, but the result was similar. A 10-6 win for Medicine Hat featured Gramlich, Karamanos and Raynah Gibney each netting a pair. Starner, Suhai, Delaney Mastel and Marley Rose rounded out the scoring, while Jena Harty picked up her second win in net of the day.

Now 9-3 in Ringette Calgary League play, the Riptide are atop their under-16 A division standings although two teams below them are unbeaten and have games in hand.

Riptide now gear up for the Ed Horvath Interprovincial Classic which starts Dec. 6.

Under-19

It was a busy weekend for the under-19 Mighty Ducks, who played twice at home and twice on the road this past weekend.

At the Kinplex Saturday, they swept a doubleheader with the Lethbridge Rattlers. An 11-2 win saw Amanda Robinson score three times, Bree Becker and Allison Mason twice, while Cassidy Stock, Jessica Heidel, Maggie Carrier and Sheridyn Herman had the others.

The second game wasn’t as one-sided but Medicine Hat still won 6-3, getting a hat trick from Stock, two more from Herman and the other goal from Mason.

Sunday was a far different story in Calgary. The Ducks fell 9-6 to Bow View Blue, despite two goals apiece from Herman and Stock and singles from Becker and Lauren Klick.

Then, up against an under-16 AA team called Tenacity, they earned a narrow 5-4 win. Klick and Robinson had two goals each and Mason scored the other to keep the Mighty Ducks above .500 at 4-3-3 in league play.

Like the Riptide, the Ducks will also see action at the Horvath tournament next weekend.
