Waves fare well in hometown

The Medicine Hat Waves shared their results from this past weekend’s AMAC Marlin Marquee Invitational swim meet at the Family Leisure Centre with the News.

A total of 26 Waves combined for 43 medals, including 16 gold. They also had a pair of swimmers get even closer to qualifying for the provincial championships.

Johnathan Marshall and Grace Jacobs each met a championship standard time, now one away from securing a spot at the big March meet.

Marshall, 12, won his 50 and 100 metre butterfly. He then added five silver medals, with runner-up finishes in 50 and 100 metre freestyle, 50 and 100 breaststroke and the 50 metre backstroke.

The 13-year-old Jacobs won her 50 and 100-metre backstroke races, was second in the 100 individual medley and third in the 50 freestyle.

One Waves swimmer medalled in each of their events. Kage Senft, 11, took home six first-place finishes and one second. Senft won the 50 and 100 back, 50 breast and fly, 100 back and free, and was second in the 50 free.
