Vikings downed in Tier 3 semi

By Medicine Hat News on November 20, 2019.

Like so many other teams over the years, the Crescent Heights Vikings were simply no match for the Cochrane Cobras on the football field.

The Vikings fell 42-0 to the Cobras in a provincial Tier 3 semifinal Saturday in Cochrane, ending a season that had plenty of high points but didn’t end on one.

After a memorable overtime win on home turf the week before to get to the semi, the Vikes were looking to reach the final for the first time in program history.

Instead, Cochrane returns for a 15h time in the past 18 years. They’ve won 12 titles in that span, often by larger spreads than what they beat Crescent Heights by this past weekend.

Holy Rosary of Lloydminster will be the Cobras opponent, having beat Sturgeon 56-0 in the other semifinal. All Alberta provincial football finals will take place in Raymond either Friday or Saturday.

Crescent Heights beat W.H. Croxford 22-21 Nov. 9 at the Methanex Bowl, coming back from a 21-0 deficit.
