Sarah Mickey is one good throw away from spot on the World Para Athletics Championship podium. The 21-year-old from Redcliff was initially slated to make her debut in Dubai for Sunday’s para discus qualifying round, but announced via social media Friday that she earned a bye into next week’s final. “Stoked to announce that I’ve auto qualified for the finals,” said Mickey, adding in response to a comment on her post that “there’s 14 girls in total and because I’m ranked in the top 6 we automatically qualified for finals.” Mickey will compete for gold at the World Para Athletics Championships on Friday at 7 a.m. The event will be streamed live at cbc.ca. 5
