There were some thrilling finishes in the Medicine Hat junior high A girls volleyball playoffs Monday night, but at the end it was the top seed left with the top prize.
At St. Mary’s, the Notre Dame Dawgs claimed the title, needing a deciding third set to beat No. 3-ranked Parkside Pythons 2-1 (25-22, 21-25, 15-11).
Notre Dame beat the host Colts 2-0 (25-22, 26-24) in the semifinals, the close scores emblematic of how the night went for all teams involved. Parkside needed three sets to edge Irvine 2-1 (25-21, 22-25, 15-12) in their semifinal match.
The bronze medal game also took three sets, with the Colts beating the Tigers 2-1 (16-25, 25-21, 18-16). St. Mary’s staved off five match points in that one.
