Rattlers women’s volleyball team wins second in a row

The Medicine Hat Rattlers women’s volleyball team strung together their second straight victory by sweeping a home-and-home set against the Trojans on Saturday at SAIT.

After dropping two of the first three sets, the Rattlers rallied all the way back to secure the win in five, (22-25, 25-21, 18-25, 25-17, 17-15), led by a 13-kill, 13-dig performance from Amber Stigter.

Megan Hoeber followed up Stigter’s efforts with 10 kills, while Janessa Oelke added 41 assists and Shaya Suchy led the defence with 23 digs.

Jadyn Leong finished with 23 kills for SAIT, Linnea Brickwood had 42 assists and Amy Chailler dug out 22.

Medicine Hat improved to 2-4 on the Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference season with the win, while SAIT slipped to 2-5.

Men fall in four

The Rattlers men’s volleyball team was dealt a fifth consecutive loss on Saturday night at SAIT (25-14, 25-16, 23-25, 25-19).

KeAndre Evans recorded a match-high 16 kills, Nicola Sreckovic added 19 assists and Ty Moline dug out nine, but the Rattlers were unable to keep their comeback hopes alive after forcing the Trojans into a fourth set.

Jarrett Noel led SAIT with 15 kills and 11 digs. Maddux Greves had 38 assists.

The loss leaves the Rattlers with a 1-5 record, while the Trojans climbed to 6-1 with the victory.

The Rattlers return to the court Friday in Lethbridge against the Kodiaks.
