Cubs push point streak to seven games with win over Flyers

By Medicine Hat News on November 2, 2019.

Six different Cubs lit the lamp to lead Medicine Hat to a 6-3 victory over the High River Flyers on Friday night at the Kinplex.

The victory pushes Medicine Hat to 7-2-2 on the Heritage Junior Hockey League season while extending their point streak to seven games.

High River’s Layne Sniher scored twice in the first period to leave the Cubs in an early deficit, but Joshua Schafer got Medicine Hat on the board late in the first.

Levi Schlosser knotted the game up midway through the middle frame, then Chandler Aleman gave Medicine Hat the lead entering the third period.

Sniher completed his hat trick early in the third to draw even, but the Cubs responded with goals from Jamal Kalaf and Mackenzie Fritzler, then Mason Fischer pushed the game out of reach with a late empty-netter.

Hat goaltender Brett Vandeveer collected the victory with a 40-save performance, while High River’s Parker Sawka settled for the loss on 26 stops.

The setback leaves the Flyers sitting at 2-8-1 on the year.

The Cubs return to the Kinplex Sunday to host the Red Deer Vipers (4-5-0) at 2:15 p.m.
