Brooke Christie powered the Medicine Hat Rattlers women’s volleyball team into the win column Friday with a 12-kill performance against the SAIT Trojans at the Snake Pit. Christie’s efforts were backed by 20 digs from Shaya Suchy and 33 assists from Janessa Oelke in a four-set victory (24-26, 25-20, 25-18, 25-17). Jadyn Leong led the Trojans with 11 kills while Katelyn Hayley set up 20 and Taryn Corkery dug out 16 in the loss. Medicine Hat improves to 1-4 on the Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference season with the victory. SAIT slipped to 2-4. Men’s volleyball The Rattlers men’s volleyball team was unable to repeat later in the evening, falling to the Trojans in straight sets (25-16, 26-18, 25-22) to sit 1-4 on the ACAC season. KeAndre Evans led the Rattlers with 11 kills in the loss – Medicine Hat’s fourth in a row – while Nikola Sreckovic had 25 assists and Jovan Stepanovic added eight digs. Jarett Noel had 14 kills for SAIT, while Maddux Greves added 28 assists and Andrew Birchall dug out eight. The Trojans climbed to 5-1 with the victory. The Rattlers and Trojans will meet again Saturday for a rematch at SAIT. Women’s basketball The Medicine Hat Rattlers women’s basketball team fell a few shots shy of securing a second straight victory in an 83-79 loss to the Clippers on Friday at Briercrest College. Four of Medicine Hat’s starters finished with 14 points or more, led by 19 from guard Morgan Muir, who also had six rebounds. Katelyn Rozdeba followed up with 17 points and seven boards. Angenay Williams fueled Briercrest with 25 points and 10 rebounds, while Amber Tilcox added 17 points with 11 boards to help the Clippers improve to 3-0 on the ACAC season. The Rattlers fell to 1-3 with the loss. Men’s basketball The Medicine Hat Rattlers men’s basketball team dropped their third straight in a 113-79 loss to the Briercrest Clippers on the road Friday. Kieron Burgess and Bensen Young both put up 16 points in the victory, while Burgess added 11 boards, but it wasn’t enough to steer Medicine Hat back into the win column. CJ Greer led the Clippers with a 26-point performance while Kyle Helsloot added 16 points and 12 rebounds to help push Briercrest to 1-2. Medicine Hat fell to 1-3 with the loss. The Rattlers men’s and women’s basketball teams return to the Snake Pit Friday to host the SAIT Trojans. 22
