Tigers’ Sillinger named WHL rookie of the month

By medicinehatnews on November 1, 2019.

Cole Sillinger will be carrying some high praise into the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

The 16-year-old Medicine Hat Tigers winger was named the Western Hockey League’s rookie of the month for September and October on Thursday after an impressive start to his major-junior career.

Sillinger led all rookies in goals and points through the end of October — a list that includes 17 and 18-year-old import players — while earning a place on Canada White for the upcoming World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

Sillinger was selected by Medicine Hat with the 11th overall pick in the 2018 bantam draft. The 6-foot, 187-pound Regina product will open the Challenge with Canada White on Saturday at 7 p.m. against Canada Black at the Canalta Centre.
