Rattlers pick up first win of women’s basketball season

The Medicine Hat Rattlers women’s basketball team fought their way into the win column with a 76-63 victory over the Ambrose Lions on the road Saturday.

Katelyn Rozdeba and Tatiana Dutka both recorded double-doubles in the victory. Rozdeba led the team with 20 points and 15 rebounds, while Dutka added 17 points and 10 boards.

Munroe Brothers recorded a game-high 21 points from the bench for Ambrose.

Medicine Hat improved to 1-2 on the Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference season with the win, while the Lions slipped to 0-3 on the loss.

Men fall to 1-2

The Rattlers men’s basketball team was dealt a painful 105-66 loss by the Lions on Saturday at Ambrose College.

Kieron Burgess powered the Rattlers’ offence with 29 points and added seven rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Medicine Hat from slipping to 1-2 on the ACAC season with their second straight setback.

Isaac Amsing led the Lions with 21 points from the bench, while Brayden Daniel had a game-high eight boards.

Ambrose climbed to 2-1 with the victory.

The Rattlers men’s and women’s basketball teams return to the hardwood on Friday to face the Clippers at Briercrest College.

Women’s volleyball team swept

The Medicine Hat Rattlers women’s volleyball fell to 0-4 on the ACAC season after falling in straight sets to the Briercrest Clippers (25-19, 25-20, 25-21) on the road Saturday.

Amber Stigter led Medicine Hat with six kills in the loss, while Janessa Oelke assisted on 19 and Shaya Suchy dug out 16.

Rebecca Garner led the Clippers to victory with a 15-kill performance, while Ashley Erickson set up 32 and Kristy Kindrachuck recorded 15 digs to push Briercrest to 4-0.

Men lose in four

The Rattlers men’s volleyball team managed to pick up the first set in Saturday’s match at Briercrest, but the Clippers rebounded to secure a dominant victory in four (22-25, 25-11, 25-15, 25-13).

Rattlers outside hitter KeAndre Evans put up 11 kills in the loss, while Nicola Sreckovic assisted on 25 and Jovan Stepanovic dug out 11.

Bryton Codd matched Evans’ efforts with 11 kills for the Clippers, while Emmitt Juul-Hansen had 22 assists and Brady Watchel added 19 digs.

The loss leaves Medicine Hat with a 1-3 record, while Briercrest improved to 3-1.

Both of Medicine Hat’s volleyball teams return to the Snake Pit Friday to host the SAIT Trojans.
