Trio earn honours

By Medicine Hat News on October 25, 2019.

They might not have made the post-season, but members of the Medicine Hat College Rattlers soccer teams did pick up some honours for a great season.

At an Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference awards ceremony in Edmonton Thursday, Tom Bernhardt was named South Division men’s soccer rookie of the year while he, Raouf Mohamed and women’s player Jadyn Fode were named ACAC all-stars.

“Tom is an outstanding athlete, citizen and student and he was a huge addition to our squad this season,” said Rattlers soccer coach Robert Cavicchia in a press release. “He is a player any squad can build around and we were fortunate he chose MHC.”

The German defender had one goal as the Rattlers went 5-5-2, in the mix for a playoff spot until the last day of the regular season. More importantly he helped anchor the back line, as Medicine Hat only let up 10 goals in total.

Mohamed’s 11 goals represented nearly half of the men’s 23 all season, and had the rookie from Italy sixth in the conference in scoring. For the women, third-year veteran Fode had four goals as her side went 5-4-3, also narrowly missing playoffs but making significant strides under new coach Cavicchia.
